22-25C. Ideal for sightseeing. Wildflowers everywhere. Sea still cool at 18-20C. Smaller crowds. Easter celebrations are spectacular.
30-35C. Peak beach season. Sea reaches 26C. Very busy — book everything ahead. July and August are extremely hot.
24-28C. Sea at its warmest. Crowds thin from mid-September. October is arguably the best month of the year to visit Malta.
14-18C. Mild by northern European standards. Some rain. Perfect for history and culture. Flights and hotels much cheaper.
Timed entry tickets sell out days ahead in peak season. Book online before arrival — it is Malta single most impressive sight.
Most coastline is rocky limestone. The sandy beaches such as Golden Bay and Mellieha are excellent but you must seek them out.
May to September: almost every village celebrates its patron saint. Fireworks, brass bands, street food — authentic Malta and completely free.
Parking is scarce and expensive. Use the park-and-ride at the bus terminus, or take the Sliema ferry which costs just EUR 1.50.
Day-trippers miss the real magic. After the boats leave at 5pm the island becomes incredibly peaceful. One night changes everything.
Tens of thousands of people crowd Comino in peak season. Take the first morning boat at 8am or visit in May, June or September instead.
The best pastizzi cost 30-50c from small local bakeries. Ask a local where they go — the answer is always better than tourist spots.
The Mediterranean sun and reflective limestone are very intense. Factor 50, a hat and plenty of water — tourists burn very quickly in Malta.
