Golden Bay is one of Malta's most popular sandy beaches, on the northwest coast near Għajn Tuffieħa and the village of Manikata. It gets busy in summer with sunbeds, a beachfront hotel, and food kiosks, and it's known for good sunsets since it faces west. If you want something quieter, the neighbouring Għajn Tuffieħa Bay (reached by a long flight of steps) is a short walk away and sees fewer crowds.

Golden Bay has a genuinely sandy beach and a sandy seabed close to shore, which makes it one of the easier bays in Malta to walk straight into the water. There can be some patches of rock or pebbles at the edges of the bay, so it's worth choosing your spot, but the main stretch is sand underfoot.

Sunbeds and umbrellas are available from private operators along Golden Bay, generally priced somewhere in the range of a few euros per item per day, with combo deals for a set plus umbrella. Prices tend to shift year to year and by operator, so it's best to check rates with the kiosk or beach attendant on the day.

There is a large public car park right above Golden Bay, and parking there is generally free. In peak summer months the car park fills up quickly by mid-morning, so arriving early is worth doing regardless of cost.

Golden Bay and Ghajn Tuffieha sit side by side on Malta's west coast, near the village of Manikata, but they feel quite different. Golden Bay has direct road access, a car park, sunbed rental, kiosks and a hotel overlooking the sand, making it the more convenient and developed of the two. Ghajn Tuffieha is reached by a long flight of steps down from its own car park and has no permanent facilities, which keeps it quieter and more natural-feeling.

Malta Public Transport route 44 runs from Valletta bus terminus to Golden Bay, passing through Mtarfa and Mgarr along the way. Journey time is roughly 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. Schedules and route numbers do get revised occasionally, so it's worth checking the current timetable on the Malta Public Transport app or website before you travel.

Early morning, before around 9-10am, is the best time to find space on the sand and avoid crowds, especially in July and August. For calmer weather and thinner crowds generally, late May, June or September are good months to visit, since the sea is still warm but the peak holiday crush has eased off.
